I want to make a puzzle with my picture, where can I get the shape or free software for making it?

I want to make a present for my boyfriend, and I want to make a puzzle using one of ours pictures, but I don’t now how to split picture on puzzle pieces. The thing is I want to make the puzzle on my PC, and then to print it and cut pieces, so he can put the piecs together and make a whole picture.
